A summer's day at the beach

Hit the beach. On these hot summer’s days there’s absolutely no shortage of coastline in South Australia, and some of the beaches are the best in the country.

When in Adelaide, one of the best beaches to visit is Glenelg. Take the tram from the city all the way there. Pack your swimmers, towels, sunscreen and beach umbrella and head off. Kids under five travel for free.

Sand castles, shells, long beachy walks and beach games await. Glenelg is known as the “The Bay” locally and it’s the place to be in summer.

Henley Beach, Grange and Semaphore further north are the beaches you’ll want to visit. To the south, there’s Brighton and Port Noarlunga with the fantastic Jubilee Park. A wooden maze is built as a castle-style fort and the kids will lose their minds when they see it.

Perhaps travel further down the Fleurieu Peninsula to Victor Harbor with some great secluded beaches to explore. You can walk along the tramway to the spectacular Granite Island where it truly feels like some kind of pirate adventure.

Kangaroo Island gets the nod for another fantastic beach local and wildlife watching.

What trip to the beach is complete without the classic fish-n-chips? You’ll find takeaway outlets near every one of the beaches we’ve mentioned, fresh South Australian seafood crumbed or battered to perfection and served with salted golden chips and tartare sauce. A slice of lemon and you’ll be thinking, what could be better?
