Head to the Yorke Peninsula if you’re looking for a place to relax and go fishing. If you don’t have a boat there’s no worries, local jetties and fishing charters offer fantastic opportunities to drop a line.

Fishing is a prime pastime on the peninsula, even the most inexperienced fisherman can snag a winner and take home a delicious fresh catch from the jetty, beach or boat.

You could catch calamari or blue swimmer crabs along the east coast during the spring and summer months. Throw the crab pots out in Port Hughes, Moonta Bay, Wallaroo and Port Broughton and expect a good catch.

Simply cast a line off the local jetty and you’re likely to catch some King George whiting, garfish or tommy ruff and bump shoulders with the friendly locals while you’re there.

Give Beach fishing a shot too, popular catches include mullet, snook, flathead, Australian Salmon and salmon trout.

One of the best experiences is to head offshore and take a boat out. If you don’t have a boat consider hiring a charter, they operate from various spots off the coast and take you right to where the fish are. It’s bound to be a great day out on the water.Don’t forget to fish responsibly.

Bag, boat and size catch limits apply to most species of fish and seafood. Some fish are also protected or have closed seasons. Check the Primary Industries and Resources website for more information for recreational fishers including fishing limits. Or grab the app for the Recreational Fishing Guide.
