Whyalla City Council

Categories: Government and Community

The Whyalla Visitor Centre is tourism accredited and offers professional service by fully trained staff. It features the largest range of quality souvenirs in Whyalla and maintains an extensive brochure display.

The friendly staff will provide information on local attractions and accommodation, as well as helping visitors make the most of their trip along the scenic Eyre Peninsula. The centre is also entrance to the unique Whyalla Maritime Museum, and the booking and departure point for tours over the Whyalla Steelworks.

Easily located on the Lincoln Highway as a major northern city gateway, it is open weekdays 9am-5pm, weekend and public holidays 10am-4pm, and only closed Good Friday and Christmas Day.

Visitors can access information outside of these hours by using a 24-hour touch-screen computerised service under the verandah outside the centre. Whyalla is a dry area, with an annual average rainfall at Whyalla of 271 mm and an estimated annual potential evaporation of 2400 mm.

Whyalla averages 65 rainy days per year. The remaining 300 days are, on average, clear and sunny and this contributes to high evaporation rates.
