Maybe take a South Australian Brewing Company tour and see how West End Draught is made. Check out the fermentation cellars, the brew house and see the bottling lines in all their wallace-and-gromit-esque production line glory.

When visiting the Hills, take a drive out to Grumpy’s Brewhaus at Hahndorf or Lobethal Bierhaus. It’s true that South Australia has some fantastic German heritage, it’s also true that Germans make some of the best beer in the world. You’ll want to visit these places.

Check out The Prancing Pony at Mount Barker, Australia’s only fire brewery where an open flame is used to brew up the ale.

Pro-Tip

In South Australia, ask for a “schooner” or “pint”. The South Australian schooner is about a glass, 285ml, and the pint is nearly a proper half-litre, at 425ml. A “butcher” will get you a slightly smaller glass at 200ml and some places may even offer 140ml “pony”.
