Outback Journeys

Discover the vast interior of Australia and journey deep into the heart of the outback. The red earth stretches to the horizon and the sunrise over the Flinders rangers will take your breath away.

Escape from the city and travel north to places where it seems like you can reach out to touch the stars at night. It’s roughly 200 kilometres from Adelaide to the Southern Flinders Ranges and getting there is easy.

Take a bus, a guided tour or simply fly.

Discover the fascinating history of South Australia’s Aboriginal culture. Take a self-drive tour to see the Aboriginal Dreaming Trail where you can explore 5000 year old cave wall paintings. Visit rock carvings at Chambers Gorge or take a cultural tour of Lake Eyre.

Perhaps the best way to explore the outback is to take a guided adventure. Take to the air or go off-road in a powerful 4WD. See Lake Eyre from the air or marvel at the changing colours of the Painted Desert. Tackle the Flinders Ranges or conquer the corrugated red dunes of the Simpson Desert.

Tap into your adventurous spirit and explore the outback on foot. Hiking tracks abound throughout, push yourself to make it to the highest point of the Flinders Rangers, St Mary Peak.

Go fossicking at Coober Pedy and keep an eye out for opals, Australian in-land was once a vast sea, teeming with ancient life forms.

When thinking of where to stay, you can’t go past a Station stay. Accommodation ranges from modest shearer’s quarters where you can share a meal with your host family to elegant homesteads offering an oasis of luxury in the outback.
